Cheque book Safety & Security Tips

  • Always count cheque leaves of your cheque book when you receive or collect it from the Bank.
  • Never share your cheque book with anyone, it should be kept under your custody.
  • Don’t leave your cheque book unattended. Always keep it in a safe place under lock and key.
  • Always fill in the date, name of receiver and the amount before signing the cheque.
  • Remember to cross your cheque whenever applicable to prevent it from being misused.
  • Immediately notify your bank to stop payment, if you have lost or misplaced your cheque.
  • Don’t accept cheques showing any sign of alteration.
  • Always use your own pen to write a cheque, preferably one with permanent ink.
  • Properly destroy all cancelled cheques or cross and shred the cheque, if it needs to be cancelled.
  • Regularly reconcile cheque book with bank statement.
  • Never keep pre-signed cheques.
  • Never leave gaps while writing cheques.
  • Never issue blank cheques under any circumstances.
  • Write the recipient’s / beneficiary complete account number, if possible.
  • Do not accept cheques written with a pencil.
  • Draw a horizontal line after the name, amount and elsewhere empty space is left.
